When can I register to vote? Can I register around the year? |

Do I need to register separately for general, state and local elections? |
| |
| |
| |
| The General / Union elections (also called Lok Sabha elections) and the State Elections (also called Vidhan Sabha Elections) are conducted by Election Commission of India (ECI) while the Local Body elections (elections to your Municipal Corporation / Panchayats) are conducted by the State Election Commissions. |
| |
| The electoral rolls for general and state elections are prepared by ECI where as the electoral rolls for local elections is prepared by State Election Commission. In most states, you DO NOT need to register separately for local elections; the State Election Commission uses the same electoral rolls prepared under the guidance of ECI. |
| |
| However, some states such as Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Kerala require citizens to register separately for the local body elections. To check specific rules for your city, please visit the website of your State Election Commission. |

Once I complete the registration process, can I be sure I've become a registered voter? |
| |
| |
| |
| No. There is always a likelihood that after filling the voter registration form and submitting it to your Electoral Registration Officer (ERO), your name might still not get included in voter list. This can be due to either of the following reasons: |
| |
| |
1. |
Errors in filling out the registration form or partially filled form |
| |
2. |
Eligibility criteria found to be invalid such as age, time duration of stay, citizenship status etc. |
| |
3. |
Misplacement of your registration form by election authorities. |
| |
| After you have submitted your form, the election administration system needs to work to approve your registration and get your name included on your city's voter list. |
| |
| However, due to various limitations in the manner in which voter registration forms are handled currently (high reliance on manual work), it is possible that your form might get misplaced. You will get to know of this only when the voter lists of your city is revised and you find your name missing! In such case, you need to re-apply as a new voter. |
| |
In many cases, it is found that there are errors in voter lists. This could an error in name, age, sex, name of relation etc. of a voter. In such cases too, you need to apply for correction of your details in voter list. You can do the same through our online registration engine.

When does the address verification take place? Who does it? |
| |
| Normally, address verification takes place within two weeks of submission of voter registration form. Address verification is done by your Booth Level Officer (BLO). BLO's are appointed by the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) for each polling booth within a assembly constituency (AC). |
| |
What if I am not present at home during address verification? |
| |
| It is not important for you to be present in person at your home during address verification as long as somebody else is available at your house who can confirm the fact that you stay at that address. |
| In case there is nobody present at your address, the Boot Level Officer (BLO), who is the incharge of address verification, may try to check the validity of your residence at the address with your neighbours and approve. |
| If you feel there is a problem with address verification, it is always useful to track your application status with your Electoral Registration Officer (ERO). |

| |
What is house-to-house enumeration? |
| |
| The Election Commission of India (ECI) prepares electoral rolls through a process of intensive revision where house-to-house enumeration is done and electors residing in each house are registered by official enumerators called Booth Level Officers (BLO). During this process, the BLOs go physically from door-to-door to collect the information about electors. |
| This process is done normally once in five years, or before an election, or if there is a special drive by ECI. |
| |
What if I was away when enumerators visited my house? |
| |
| If you were not available when the enumerators visited your house as part of the intensive revision, he/she is required to leave behind a letter of request (Form 4) for your perusal. You have to fill up Form 4 and submit to the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) of your constituency. |
| In case Form 4 had not been left behind by the enumerators, you can complain to the ERO and obtain Form 4, fill the particulars and submit to the same office within the specified time. |
